Is this a sword bayonet with knuckle bow field modified (cut off) or a mangled one?

And the other photos of it being brought out? Cleaned up?

There are French WW1 bayonet that could look like that caked in mud and half shown...

It's probably not a Lebel bayonet, but could be from a Berthier or a Spanish Mauser. Or it could be from a Baker. If it is I would expect that's because it was broken rather than deliberately modified.
